Tagging Your Items
Lowcountry Tot Swap has tried to make tagging your items as easy as possible, but there is still a little work that must be done. Here's some of our suggestions:
-
START EARLY! Entering and tagging more than 100 items can be daunting - but even more so when you're trying to beat the clock. Give yourself a little time to enter items, print your tags, and attach tags to the item.
-
Have your supplies ready:
-
WHITE Cardstock Paper - found at any office supply store, Wal-Mart & Target
-
1" or larger Safety Pins or Tagging Gun if you want to cut your pinning time in half
-
Clear Packing Tape
-
Gallon and/or Quart size Zip-Lock bags
-
Wire and/or plastic hangers
Transfer Your Inventory
We'd like to make sure you are aware of our inventory transfer option so you can place any of your unsold items from previous sales into your Spring 2012 inventory. This feature electronically moves your inventory from say our fall sale into the spring sale. You can also transfer items from another sale (so long as you used MyConsignment Manager). This means no reentering or tagging those same items!! Here are detailed instructions if you haven't transferred your items already:
- Once you’re registered as a consignor and paid your consignor fee, login HERE using your username and password.
- On your Seller’s Home page you'll see all My Consignment Manager sales you've participated in, choose “Manage Inventory” from the menu at the top of the page.
- On your Manage Inventory page go to the “Search Criteria” box and select “items NOT Sold only” then choose “Lowcountry Tot Swap / Fall 2011 (closed)" (or whatever sale you are transferring your items out of) from the drop down menu and click “Generate Items List”.
- All of your items unsold from the Fall 2011 sale (or other sale) will appear. Use the check boxes to select which items you want to transfer to the fall sale. If you want to transfer them all, use the “Check All” option in the blue header row.
- Once you’ve checked the items you want to transfer, look under the “Item Transfers” bar and use the drop down menu to select Lowcountry Tot Swap / Spring 2012. Once you’ve selected the sale the “Transfer Item(s) to:" box will become active. Click it and your items will be transferred to the fall sale. No reentering or tagging! You can also add as much to the inventory as you’d like. All new items though will require a tag. Tags will print exactly like your current tags.
**ANYONE USING MYCONSIGNMENTMANAGER.COM CAN BENEFIT FROM THIS FEATURE. HOWEVER, YOU MUST HAVE THE SAME CONSIGNOR NUMBER ACROSS SALES TO AVOID REPRINTING AND TAGGING ITEMS. If you'd like to see if another consignor number is available just send us an email and we'll be happy to check on consignor number availability!
and/or Enter Your Inventory
Once you've cleaned out the closets, toy chests, garage and other "stuff traps", give yourself an hour or so to enter all of your items in the inventory system. You'll have access to this once you've registered as a consignor and paid your $10 up-front sellers fee.
Step-by-Step Instructions
-
Log-Into your Sellers Account using your unique ID and Password.
-
At the top of your seller home page you'll find 8 menu selections, click "Enter Items".
-
This brings you to the "Add/Remove/Edit Items" page. Your seller # and the consignment name will automatically appear. You cannot edit these features.
-
Choose your item's price from the drop-down menu. We only allow prices in $.50 increments.
-
Choose your item's size. If this does not apply to your item, please select "Not applicable".
-
Enter the item's Brand Name/Description. This is where you need to highlight the brand name (ie, Old Navy, Graco, OshKosh, etc.) and generic description (ie, jeans, shirt, swimsuit, shoes, highchair, etc).
**While many items will seem self explanatory since the buyer is looking at the item, a good description can help us place a lost item with its original tag or return to seller based on their inventory sheet.
-
Enter the item's Description. You should include any identifying information here (ie, multi-colored flowers, navy/yellow adjustable stroller, etc). This is a short description, so please use only relevant words to describe your item.
-
If you wish for your item to be discounted by 50% on Saturday, please select the "Discount" box. **Remember, this only applies if your item hasn't already been sold during the two previous days of sale.
-
If you would like to donate your unsold item, please select the "Donate" box.
**Items marked for donation will be given to local charitable organizations including area churches and outreach ministries. All unsold items not marked Donate will be available for consignor pick-up on Sunday from 12pm - 2pm.
-
If you have more than 1 item with the same description, you can select the number under the "Power Tagger" option.
-
Select the "Add Item" button at the bottom and your information is saved under your inventory.
-
All items must be entered by 8pm on Tuesday, March 27 to be included in the Spring/Summer sale! You'll still be able to print tags after this date, but all items must be entered into your inventory.
Ready, Set, Print!
Once you have completed entering your items into your inventory, you can select "Manage Inventory" from the menu selections at the top of the page. Here, you'll be able to review all items entered and edit items you would like to change before printing tags.
-
After you've verified your item's price, description, and donate/discount options, you're ready to print your tags. Remember, you must use WHITE CARDSTOCK paper for ALL tags.
**Lowcountry Tot Swap reserves the right to deny placing a consignor's item on the sale's floor if items are not tagged properly, this includes tags printed on any paper besides white cardstock.
-
Select "Print Tags" from the menu selection at the top of the page. You'll have detailed instructions on the right hand side to select the items you want to print and generate your tags.
-
Before you hit PRINT, please make sure you select the "Normal" or "Best" settings on your print options. If you use the "Draft" or "Fast" mode, your barcodes may not print properly.
-
You're ready to print your tags - remember, WHITE CARDSTOCK only!
-
Cut your tags, making sure to cut around the tag border.
-
Use 1" safety pins, clear packing tape, or a clothing tag gun to properly secure your tag to the item. Please follow the tag placement instructions below.
Tag Placement on Clothing
Tag placement is extremely important to sell your item. We reserve the right to not accept any improperly tagged items at check-in, so now is the time to do it right!
-
All clothing items must be on wire or plastic hangers (adult or child size).
-
Hangers must be facing left like a question mark "?".
-
Shirts must be hung properly on the hanger with the tag on the right chest area of the shirt attached with 1" safety pin or with a clothing tag gun. When using a tagging gun, insert through a seem at either the neck or sleeve.
-
Pants must be attached to a hanger with 1" safety pins or hung from a hanger with tight pinchers. Tags should be attached with 1" safety pin or clothing tag gun to the right top of the pants.

Tag Placement on Shoes
Previously, shoes have been required to be in gallon or quart size ziplock bags. Consignors are now asked to fasten shoes together using a safety pin, zip tie or twine tied in a knot. The tag can then be fastened with a safety pin. For those shoes that cannot be tied together in this way, we want you to use your ziplock bags here. Please note that we will be very strict with shoe selections, so bring only your best, "like new" pairs. Keep out of season shoes at home until the next sale (ie, we only sell sandals during the spring sale and boots during the fall sale).
- Tags should be fastened to the top of shoes with a safety pin that are securely tied together with twine, zipties or safety pins.

Tag Placement on Large Toys or Furniture
These items tend to sell themselves so long as they are in good condition, but tagging placement is important so potential buyers can immediately look at the tag for pricing information.
-
For furniture and large items with a smooth, visible surface, tags should be taped with clear packing tape to the most visible smooth surface. Make sure not to cover the barcode.
-
For larger items with cloth surfaces, attach tag using 1" safety pin to the most visible spot on the item.

Tag Placement on Small Toys, Electronics, DVDs/CDs & More
Some discretion must be used when attaching tags to odd shaped items. This is another place ziplock bags and clear, plastic cling wrap comes in handy. Be sure to attach securely with clear packing tape, 1" safety pins, string or ribbon so that the tag is clearly visible.
-
Tags for CD's, DVDs, and other boxed items must be taped to the front, lower right-hand corner of the item. Remember, CDs & DVDs are only accepted when in their original cases and electronic games sell best when in the original packaging.
-
Toys sell best in sets, so please use your ziplock bags to group similar play items.
**Example: if you are trying to sell a Leapster game player and 3 Leapster games, they will sell better when packaged and priced together instead of packaging and pricing them separately.

Just remember, if you need help with more than 1 or 2 items
at check-in, you'll probably be delayed, so ask early!
If you've followed all of these instructions, but still aren't sure how to tag a unique item, please feel free to email us or bring your loose tag and item to check-in and we'll be glad to help you then.
Other Tagging Tips
For puzzles and other toys with multiple pieces, please use clear, plastic cling wrap or ziplock bags instead of tape. The plastic will keep items together without ruining or defacing the items.
ALL ITEMS MUST BE ENTERED INTO YOUR INVENTORY NO LATER THAN 8pm MARCH 27! YOU'LL STILL BE ABLE TO PRINT TAGS AFTER THIS DATE, BUT ONLY FOR ITEMS ALREADY ENTERED!
